"Filled With Evil Doing"

        Century III, Quat. 60

    In the latter stages of "Operation Desert Shield," President Bush
and Sudam Hussain had descended to the level of a war of words, with
the attendant Saber rattling, taunts and jeers.  President Bush made a
televised speech in which he stated the American & world position and
Sudam reciprocated.  During his response, Sudam used a phrase that was
taken word for word from Century III, Quat. 60 of "The Centuries" by
Michel de Nostradame (Copyright infringement?).

        Century III, Quat. 60
Par toute Asie grande proscription, Mesme en Mysie, Lysie, &
Pamphylie: Sang versera par absolution, D'un jeune noir rempli de
felonnie.

        Translation
In all of Asia there will be great proscription, the same in Mysia,
Lycia,and Pamphilia.  Blood will flow through absolution given to a
dark young King filled with evil doing.

    Several times during the aforementioned speech , Sudam Hussain
used the phrase, "George Bush and his Cronies, filled with evil
doing."

    As Erica Cheetham says, all the place names in the above quatrain
are in the Middle East, specifically:  Turkey, Northern Iraq & Syria.
I translated "noir" (dark) as both 'King' and 'dark', because
Nostradamus uses it as an anagram for King in other quatrains and I
suspect he intended a double meaning here.  In my opinion Sudam (as
many before him) has taken the job (of King) by force of arms against
his own people.

    The first two lines describe the build-up to Desert Storm and the
drafting of men in the whole of the Middle East (and the world) to
fight on both sides.  The blood has never ceased to flow since Sudam
Hussain began his bloody ascent, from the torture chambers in the
dungeons of the main prison, in Baghdad, to absolute power as self
proclaimed President of Iraq.  He didn't forget his friends either, he
brought his torturers up from the dungeons, to power at the pinnacle
of the Kingdom of Evil (at least, those he didn't decide to murder for
some reason). The stories and rumors about Sudam Hussain are so
numerous in the Middle East that it will be centuries before the truth
can be known in full. One thing is certain, Sudam has a foolproof way
of eliminating threats to his regime:  he simply kills everybody he
suspects and, therefore, is sure to get somebody that's guilty (or
more likely, one or two who are not).

    I had known for a couple of years that this quatrain was about
Sudam Hussain, but the final piece didn't fall in place until his
ranting rambling speech in 1990.  Hussain and his  cronies maintain
power as of this time.

    I knew that he had been convicted by the Military regime that
overthrew the Iraqi Monarchy (in 1958) for the attempted assassination
in 1959 of then Prime Minister Gen Qassem, and condemned to death.  I
knew that:  after the Baathist party wrested power from the Military
regime that had overthrown Gen. Qassem and the first Baathi regime
(1963) in one of the bloodiest coups of the 20th Century (1968)  (--?
Confusing isn't it ?), they issued a blanket amnesty (absolution) for
all the young revolutionaries that had been forced to flee into exile.

    I knew this before I started studying Nostradamus.  It's the type
of thing that an Expatriot-American, International-Construction-Worker
had better know before he hies his fragile derriere in amongst the
Lions. I adamantly avoided employment in Iraq (and Lybia, for similar
reasons).

    I've often wondered if Sudam Hussain has read Nostradamus, because
many of the things he's said and done seem to have been choreographed
to conform to the writings of Michel de Nostradame.  I know that he
and Hafez Assad both have an aggressive drive to become "the Great
Arab"  which is a term used by Nostradamus in several quatrains.

        Century II, Quat, 62

    Serendipity played a part in solving one quatrain about Sudam
Hussain.  I was wandering around the airport in Paris and decided to
pick up a magazine to read on the plane.  While standing in line at
the counter, I glanced at the reflection of a sign on a display of
books on Sudam Hussain and read "mabuS."  Of course, I would never
admit that this is the way I solved this quatrain, it has no class,
and besides, y' jus' feel s' dumb when it hits y' like that.  There I
was jumpin' aroun', pointin' and hollerin', "Mabus!  Look at th'
reflection!  It says Mabus!" And, nobody even spoke Texas English, let
alone Nostradamian Anagramese. One Frenchman looked at another and
muttered, "Crazi!  Americaines tout Crazi!"  Somehow, I got the
impression that was pidgin English.  I'd think that Frenchmen would at
least be conversant in one of their national treasures.

        Century II, Quat. 62
Mabus puis tost alors mourra, viendra,
De gens & bestes une horrible defaite: Puis tout a coup la vengeance
on verra, Cent, main, soif, faim, quand courra la comete.

        Translation
Mabus then will soon be dead, there will come, for men & beasts a
horrible defeat. Then suddenly we shall see a vengeance. A hundred, a
hand, thirst, famine, when the comet will pass.

    Certainly, at this time, Mabus (mirror image phonetic spelling of
Sudam) is not dead, though Nostradamus says he soon will be, "mourra."
There has been a horrible defeat, for Iraqi men if not so many beasts
(unless we consider automobiles, trucks and buses as mechanical
beasts, and Nostradamus may have seen them as such).

    Of course he may have been speaking, in a much more literal sense,
of the suffering of the Kurds in the North, and the Shiites in the
South, as a result of Sudam Hussains' reprisals for real or imagined
betrayals by those who are most certainly his enemies.  If I've
translated (or interpreted) the last two lines correctly, the eventual
total of casualties due to reprisals will equal one hundred for each
Iraqi killed as a result of the Gulf War and its aftermath, but, with
the differing body counts, it would be pure speculation to even hazard
a guess at what this figure might be.

    Then again, I think that Nostradamus was installing wheels within
wheels, when he phrased the last sentence as he did:  ""Cent, main,
soif, faim; A hundred, a hand, thirst, famine."  Anyone who followed
the finger-pointing, sniveling, and recriminations in the aftermath of
the war will recall the furor caused by the revelation that Combat
Bulldozer operators had buried Iraqi soldiers alive, and the poignant
picture of a clawed hand, reaching out of the sand, grasping for one
more breath of life.

    Of "thirst and famine," the Kurds & Shiites have in plenty (or
have had) and even a passing Comet or two,......Hale-Bopp for
instance.

    The bloody Mabus, is definitely (and definably) an Anti-Christ,
but he may not be the "third Antichrist" of whom Nostradamus (and
myriad translators) warns.  Need I issue a warning?

    O K!  I will:  Look to the hand upon the string, for the puppet is
often just another victim, (like you and me).

        CENTURY X, QUAT. 9
    My original copy of Erica Cheethams' "The Prophecies of
Nostradamus" is so old it's lost its binding and the only way I can
keep it together is with rubber bands.  I think, I bought it during my
vacation from Algeria in 1984, because I remember having it in Arzew
at SONATRAC Camp 8.  The one thing I do remember, is reading C.X, Q.9
and being struck by an odd feeling of Deja Vu, even though this
quatrain had not been fulfilled at the time (I didn't know that).  I
bounced out of my chair and walked the floor for days while thumbing
through magazines and books.  Somehow I knew that I would solve this
quatrain, I just didn't know some of the facts that made it possible
to do so, at that time.


        Century X, Quat. 9
De Castillion figuires jour de brune, De
feme infame naistra souverain prince. Surnon de chausses perhume lui
posthume. Onc Roi ne faut si pire en sa province.

        Translation
In the Castle of Figueras (?) on a misty day a sovereign prince will
be born of an unworthy woman.  The surname of Chausses on the ground
will make him posthumous. Never a King so bad in his own province.


    The key to this quatrain lay in a Time Magazine article about the
Israeli raid, June 7, 1981 on the Osirak Nuclear power plant in Iraq
and the only fatality of that raid, Damien Chauspied.

    In "Bullseye Iraq" a book by Dan Mckinnon, the name is spelled;
"Damien Chaussepied."  This reference places the Quatrain solidly in
Iraq and definitely during the reign of Sudam Hussain.


    The dictionary defines "Chausse-pied" (with a hyphen) as shoehorn,
however, the literal translation of "chausse" is hose and the
definition of "pied" is foot.  To me "Chaus" is shoe and I know that
it was listed as such in at least one dictionary that I've had (but
can't find now). I might never have solved the last two lines if I
hadn't been in Algeria. I remember learning the Algerian French terms
for 'ground floor' when I noticed that the bottom floor of a building
was called 'Pied Perhume' on an elevator control panel in Oran,
Algeria.

    Things started clicking, I started digging, and eventually reached
a quasi translation of Chauspied as (French) 'shoe foot', or 'hose on
the ground', or (Algerian French) 'shoe on the floor' (or ground).  I
commented on this to a French co-worker in Syria (on the border of
Iraq) and was rewarded with a towering rage centered on my impertinent
presumptions in tampering with Ze Magnifique Langue Francaise.  It
seems that ground floor (Pied Perhume in Algeria) is really "rez de
chaussee".

    This was a Frenchman from the provinces with pretensions of being
Parisien.  Nice guy though, ordinarily we got along great, it's the
only real argument we ever had.

    The first line can also be read, "The Spanish Figs on a foggy
day," which is interesting because a secondary meaning of "figueres"
is 'prickly pear'(sometimes called Spanish Figs) a common agricultural
crop in N. Africa and the Middle East.  In any case the second line
seems to imply a child born out of wedlock or of a divorced mother.
This is curious, to me, because generally speaking, Nostradamus seems
to have been rather liberal in matters 'romantique.'

    I suspect that this refers to Sudam Hussains Father, there are
several reports, according to Simon Henderson in his book "Instant
Empire," as to his fate.  One says that he died before Sudam was born,
another that he simply abandoned his family and was never seen again.
His Mother remarried, with no mention of a divorce, and this could be
the source of Nostrdamus's condemnation, but I doubt it.

    I have never seen a biography, thumbnail or otherwise, of Damien
Chauspied, yet I doubt that the first two lines refer to him, I think
they refer to Sudam.  As I said, Damien was a 25 year old French
engineer employed at Iraqs' Osirak Nuclear Power Plant at Tammuz when
it was raided and destroyed by Israeli jets.

    This is one place where I disagree with Nostradamus, it wasn't his
name that made him "posthumus," but Israeli bombs.  Still, I believe
it's almost a dead center hit by Nostradamus.  I have found no other
mention anywhere of a name even similar, nor have I ever heard one
mentioned by anyone in any language.  It seems to be the only time it
appears in History.

    This line effectively pinpoints Iraq as the target of the
quatrain.  Thus, it also scores a bullseye on Sudam Hussain as "Never
a King so bad in his own province."  An accurate description (even if
he does call himself a President), I think you'll agree.
